Martin Parr

Today I had a lovely day soaking up the sun in Bristol, as part of this I went along to the Martin Parr exhibition currently on show at the top floor of the M-Shed. I would like to heartily recommend that anyone who lives in Bristol or nearby makes an effort to see it before the end of November. Martin Parr is a photographer who fascinates me in his original compositions and the way that he manages to capture life. He is someone who is obviously fascinated by people, as these photos clearly illustrate.

Dean Freeman

Dean Freeman has a portfolio of work that I started to have a quick flick through and then found myself looking at every single photo. He has that think that all good photographers need I think and that is a unique perspective. I particularly like his sets of photos in the 'stories' part of his website.

Jake Green

Jake Green has some excellent examples of photography to be found on his portfolio website. I particularly like this image of Howard Marks.

Jess Bonham

Really beautiful photography work can be found on the website of Jess Bonham.

Bence Mate

I went to Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery earlier and was really impressed by the work of Bence Mate. His photography of various natural subjects is absolutely stunning. The image of the ants above is the photo which won him the title of Wildlife Photographer of the year.

I'm not really fussed on the clothes but the blog for The Hundreds is basically what I would love to do for a living. Travelling around, eating good food, going to exhibitions and taking photos (which are very good by the way).

I was just having a flick through the Evening Standard my sister picked up in London yesterday and I was attracted by the story about Mat Collishaw's Magic Lantern installation at the V&A. Upon having a look at his website I found that there was a lot of good (and sometimes challenging) work, combining sculpture, animals and photography.

I have been following Spencer Tunick's work with some interest. His photos of assembled nude groups of people don't always work but when they are simple and interact well with the environment they are in they can be very beautiful.

Holga and Justin Quinnell

I have just been given a Holga camera for one of my birthday presents and I am pretty excited about using it! I think it may be similar to a pinhole camera which takes me back to my art foundation days when we had an excellent tutorial from Bristol based pinhole photographer Justin Quinnell.

Diane Arbus

A fascinating photographer with a fascinating story, when I saw her exhibition at the Cardiff Museum and Art Gallery this was perhaps the photo that struck me most.

Ofer Wolberger

Similar in some ways to Gillian Wearing's photo of Lily Cole Wolberger took a series of photos of a masked woman named Maggie in various 'holiday' situations (ever so slightly creepy!). He also has some interesting photos of American Landscapes on his website.

Gillian Wearing

Another excellent photographer is Gillian Wearing, I researched her ages ago for some project I can't quite remember and then my memory was jogged when I picked up one of her postcards from Dunedin Public Art Gallery (which was very good). I really like her work, so simple and stark. The portrait of Lily Cole is also interesting for its use of a mask on an already doll like face.
