I just stumbled upon the work of sculptor Theo Mercier, I really like his surreal sculptures. They are very strange indeed.

Will Cotton

Will Cotton is the artist behind Katy Perry's recent album cover, I really like his paintings but was attracted also to his leaning towers of manmade cake, images of extreme excess.

Mat Collishaw

I was just having a flick through the Evening Standard my sister picked up in London yesterday and I was attracted by the story about Mat Collishaw's Magic Lantern installation at the V&A. Upon having a look at his website I found that there was a lot of good (and sometimes challenging) work, combining sculpture, animals and photography.

Takashi Murakami

I really like the work of Takashi Murakami who has been able to take over parts of the Palace of Versailles just outside of Paris. There is quite an interesting juxtaposition between his work and the regal surroundings.

Ron Mueck

I think it was in March when I saw Ron Mueck's exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery. There were only a couple of his pieces including the one above of the spooning couple but I really loved the sense of intimacy and overbearing on this scene which is very small in scale. Mueck started as a prop maker and model maker for TV and film before moving into fine art, his pieces are really worth seeing at their scale to get a full sense of his work.

Luke Jerram

I was pleasantly surprised when I received UWIC's alumni magazine to discover that Luke Jerram had also been a former student. I think he is a very clever artist, most recently gaining press coverage with his glass sculptures of disease. He was also behind the interactive piano installations which were located around the world inviting people to 'Play me, I'm yours'. He is evidently a brilliant thinker, someone who is changing the way we interact and engage with art.
