Recent finds

These two items are the most recent things I have found, both near my house in Bristol.

Shiver me timbers

I saw this in New Zealand on the peninsula just outside Dunedin.

Saturday in Bristol

On Saturday I went for a wander in Clifton and then to The Old Duke where we enjoyed the Jazz Festival with a couple of ciders. Here are a few of photos from the day...

Anna Roberts

My good friend Anna that was featured in my character photos from first year has just set up a tumblr account, she is a fantastic illustrator. Above is my favourite piece, more like this can be found here.

Sky

Although the weather conditions haven't exactly been consistent this Summer we have been lucky enough to have some absolutely beautiful sunsets and two of the best rainbows I have ever seen in a matter of days! Here are a couple of photos of skies I have seen out of my window recently.

Bank Holiday Britain

I really like this postcard range showing the slightly more realistic side of British tourism, I thought that this image was fairly appropriate also!

Dorothy Bohm

A bit late on posting this as well, but earlier on this Summer I went to Manchester Art Gallery (which is very good incidentally). The exhibition on the top floor was of the work of Dorothy Bohn a photographer who started off in a 1940's photographic studio and went on to explore the world. Her work revealed an interesting and well travelled life. It finishes on Monday the 30th of August but if you have the chance to visit it is definitely recommended. She also writes about photography beautifully if you have a chance to check out her website.

Chickens

Another little drawing I did in first year.

Hearts

This image was the front cover of one of my first year sketchbooks, a combination of drawing, photocopying and collage.

The Gold Mine

Is a pop up vintage clothing shop running until mid October in Stokes Croft at Central Reservation. I only popped in for a couple of minutes but it looked like there were lots of good bargains to be had. Central Reservation itself is a temporary project space devoted to the visual arts so is definitely worth finding out more about if you live around Bristol. More info on The Gold Mine can be found on Shop Dutty.

Pakistan Flooding

A strangely beautiful photo I found on the Guardian website of an absolutely horrible situation.

Andrew Joyce

I just found Andrew Joyce's card amongst stuff beside my bed and I really like his style of illustration so thought I would share his website so you can also have a look.

Esther McManus

A while ago I went to Here gallery which is based in Stokes Croft in Bristol. They had an eclectic exhibition called 'Don't be sad' on, which featured a group of recent Bath Spa graduates. They were giving out postcard packs in stripy paper bags, one of the nicest postcards for me was Esther McManus's. She seems to have a quite wide range of intriguing work too!

Tip Jars

I found this tip jar in Mr Scruff's tea shop on my recent trip to Manchester, it worked for me! There are some other good ideas here.

Anthony Stokes

Anthony Stokes is a really interesting photographer I found a while ago whilst in Cardiff Museum and Art Gallery. I like his take on what others might see as mundane or normal buildings and streetscapes. I looked at him for my project on people and possessions he has published a book on 'The Valleys' which you can purchase here. I particularly like the doll house appearance of this new build house above.

Escape Vans

When travelling around New Zealand back in May we were in an Escape van which are instantly recognisable due to each one being individually spray painted. We really liked our van which we called Vinny but I also liked to take photos of other peoples as they were all so beautifully done, here are a few examples:

Racist Note?

On my way to the train station this morning I found this note, the content is a bit confusing but I think quite possibly anti Semitic?

Red Shoe

A drawing I did earlier this evening.

Art from the New World

I have been to this exhibition about 5 or 6 times now but I always really enjoy it and it is finishing on Sunday so if you haven't already got down to The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery try and get there now! I also went this evening to a free showing of The Treasures of Long Gone John which was a really intriguing look at the somewhat eccentric prolific collector and record company manager Long Gone John. A couple of the artists featured in the exhibition are shown above.

Hotwells

I tried combining collage with drawing in this sketch which shows some of the brightly coloured houses in Hotwells.

Seahorse

Cabot Tower

A little sketch of one of my favourite places in Bristol.

BradT

Brad was on my course and is now training to be a tattooist, I am always very impressed by his new work so thought I would put a link up here.
